Event description

Description

Individuals impacted by the criminal legal system face significant financial barriers, fines and fees, debts accumulated during incarceration, and barriers in the job search process. In this training for case managers, we will discuss the criminalization of poverty and the impact of municipal fees on low-income communities. The training will include an overview of individuals’ rights related to sealing & expungement, collateral consequences of incarceration, and community resources.

The training will be provided by Heartland Human Care Services and will be held from 9:00am-12:00pm. The training will be followed by lunch and an overview of the Illinois Asset Building Group, which is a statewide coalition of community organizations and advocates working to advance policies and programs that support the financial security of Illinois families.

The event is free and open to any community organization providing case management services, financial empowerment programs, or serving individuals who are formerly incarcerated.

Coffee and lunch will be provided.
