Description
Reel Talk: A monthly Film, Food, and Forward-action event series
Bring an appetite for fresh and invigorating experiences, and a willingness to share.
We will provide the movie, meal, and a starting point for creative dialogue.
This month we are honored to partner with One Common Unity to share an advanced screening of their new film Fly By Light (directed by Ellie Walton).
Synopsis:
A group of teenagers board a bus for West Virginia, leaving the streets of Washington, DC to participate in an ambitious peace education program. For the first time in their lives Mark, Asha, Martha, and Corey play in mountain streams, sing under the stars, and confront the entrenched abuse, violence and neglect cycles of their past. But as they return to DC, each young person faces an unforgiving series of hurdles and roadblocks that challenge their efforts to build a better life. Through breathtaking visuals from street corners to mountaintops, Fly By Light is an intimate exploration of the chaotic, confusing, and emotional journey to rewrite a young person’s future.

More about Reel Talk:
Each month will feature a unique film, lovingly created meal (and drinks!), and a chance to dialogue with other guests about the movie and next steps we can all take regarding the issue at hand. Issues may include but are not limited to: the environment, wealth distribution, women’s rights, diversity and cultural awareness, war, poverty, happiness, peace, art… and anything else YOU feel is important to discuss.
Through the Reel Talk series we seek to:
- Entertain, educate, and begin ongoing dialogue about what matters most to our communities
- Stimulate action and creative thought
- Rally support for new ideas and new ways of being with each other
- Expand our capacity for community-wide and worldwide engagement
- Combat apathy and cynicism
- Initiate activity – the idea that we can all DO more, BE more
- Change expectations about what it means to be an activist
