Description

The Reel Impact: Environmental Film Industry Development Day is aimed at connecting environmental film practitioners, communicators, educators, eNGO workers and other interested folk to share information, exchange battle stories, build skills and catalyse the production of more high quality environmental video content.

This is the second Reel Impact event hostel by the Environmental Film Festival of Australia (EFFA). We have gathered an excellent selection of panellists who are all industry leaders in the film and environmental sectors that will draw upon their extensive knowledge of innovative techniques and industry trends. This year there will be five sessions followed by a networking function.

We encourage you to buy a discounted DAY PASS but if you can't stay for the whole day you can purchase tickets to individual sessions.

Session 1 (11:30 - 12:30)
IN CONVERSATION WITH MILA AUNG-THWIN

Filmmaker Mila Aung-Thwin, director of Canadian film Let There Be Light will host a one-hour conversation about this new documentary, his filmmaking process, his thoughts on making environmentally themed productions and how he choses his subjects. More info.

Session 2 (12:45 - 1:45)
MAKING A SPLASH (AND HOW TO KEEP SWIMMING)

Join us in conversation with established environmental filmmakers reflecting on what they’ve learnt since their first enviro film, their experiences working with NGOs, making an impact with their work, and their thoughts on the current state of the industry. More info.

Session 3 (2:00 - 3:00)
CATALYSING CHANGE WITH ENVIRONMENTAL FILMS

Many environmental films are made with a mind to generate awareness that leads to improved environmental outcomes. But just how effective can enviro-films be, and are we making the most of film’s potential? This panel brings together industry professionals involved in creating social and environmental impact through film, using developed strategies covering the spectrum from production to distribution, from documentaries to climate fiction (cli-fi). More info.

Session 4 (3:30 - 4:30)
COMMUNICATING ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

This session will look at how we can communicate environmental and sustainability issues with video to generate more empathy and create change. We will explore innovative communications strategies and look at what opportunities are available for collaborations between environmental filmmakers and ENGOs. More info.

Session 5 (4:45 - 5:30)
FUNDING IN A CHANGING CLIMATE

These days nearly every significant production starts with a crowdfunding campaign. So what makes a successful campaign and what does a comprehensive fundraising plan for an environmental documentary look like? More info.

5:30 - 6.30 INDUSTRY NETWORKING @ THE ACMI BAR + CAFE

This will be a chance to connect with environmental video and film practitioners, communicators, educators and eNGO employees to discuss the ideas raised during the day's sessions.

Full day pass ticket holders and holders of tickets to sessions 1 to 5 are invited to attend this networking event. Drinks provided courtesy of EFFA beverage partners Mountain Goat.
