Emissions monitoring analyzers have typically been maintenance intensive instruments, leading to large ongoing costs associated with spare parts and personnel in order to keep emissions systems operating. Meanwhile, laser spectroscopy analyzers such as Tunable Diode Lasers (TDL) and Quantum Cascade Lasers (QCL) have gained acceptance for use in process analyzers over the last decade. The appeal of optical technologies, specifically laser spectroscopy, is that much of the regular maintenance of traditional analyzers can be reduced or removed. However, their use has been limited to one or two gas measurements at a time, often for trace components. For applications such as Emissions Monitoring, where multiple gases are required to be measured, this technology has typically been cost prohibitive. The newest analyzers are able to combine TDL and QCL technologies and provide multiple measurements at once. This presentation discusses the application of these newer combined analyzers, and how they can help save cost and reduce complexity in emissions monitoring, and other applications where multiple components are required to be measured continuously
