Redesigning a Corporate Intranet: Considerations and Insights April 23 Lunch Program
Communicators have to conceive solutions every day. Some solutions never get off the ground, while others quickly become successes. This is your opportunity to take a look at another company’s internal communications and see if you can adapt its solutions to serve your own company's needs. As Thomas Edison once said. “Everyone steals in industry and commerce. I've stolen a lot myself. The thing is to know how to steal.”
Lisa Miller, Communications Lead for Shared Services at FirstEnergy Corp., invites you to steal from her as she helps us think about the strategy and executional details required for redesigning a corporate intranet for effective internal communications. Her intranet work earned a 2013 Vision Award from business communication peers.
We will get a peek behind the FirstEnergy firewall as Lisa walks through the process (and tactics) FirstEnergy used to re-invigorate its aging intranet, including:
- Building a business case and obtaining management support and funding
- Reviewing the existing intranet and its evolution
- Determining the communication goals
- Identifying stakeholders and conducting interviews
- Determining tactical recommendations
- Developing a new intranet design
- Establishing new processes
- Launching and promoting the new intranet
- Maintaining, measuring and enhancing the new intranet
- Leveraging the role of a governance group
Lisa also will share her success and failures and provide handouts so you can use her lessons learned at your company. FirstEnergy Corp. is a Fortune 200 company with more than 15,000 employees. Headquartered in Akron, Ohio, FirstEnergy is one of the nation’s largest electric utility companies serving six million customers.
Lunch and networking begins 11:30 am, and the program runs from noon-1:30 pm. The program will take place at the Educational Service Center of Cuyahoga County, 6393 Oak Tree Blvd, Independence, OH 44131.
