Redefining Justice: A Community Call to Action
Event Information
Description
The Utah Film Center is collaborating with several community partners invested in social and racial justice to host a film screening of Ava DuVernay’s documentary, 13th, as part of a series of events to celebrate National Youth Justice Awareness Month. This event titled “Redefining Justice: A Community Call to Action,” will be held on October 5, 2017, at the Salt Lake County Library’s Viridian Event Center.
The film explores the intersection of race, justice, and mass incarceration in the United States. Although 13th is available for screening on Netflix, we hope to gather community members to bring collective awareness to the current status of our justice system in order to begin a larger conversation towards change. In addition, this dialogue is relevant as we consider redefining justice for the next generation of young people in America.
Doors open at 6:00pm and the film will begin at 7:00pm- followed by a panel discussion of local advocates and experts who will conclude with a CALL-TO-ACTION to join the movement towards reform.
