Event description

Description

Albert Einstein. Jennifer Aniston. Charles Schwab. Jay Leno. Daymond John. Sir. Richard Branson. What do all these successful people have in common? They are all dyslexic. In fact, 1 in every 5 people are dyslexic. Contrary to popular belief, dyslexia is not seeing things backwards. Dyslexia is a neurobiological learning difference that primarily affects aspects of language including reading, writing, spelling, and speech.

The Governor’s office has officially declared, “October 2017 is to be Dyslexia Awareness Month in Utah.” October is also National Dyslexia Awareness Month.

In recognition of Dyslexia Awareness Month, Rio Tinto Stadium will be “lighting it up red,” along with other structures across the world. Red represents the frustration parents feel, the high level of shame associated with dyslexia, as well as the red pens that are closely associated with our students' school work.

Come join Decoding Dyslexia Utah at “Redeeming Red for World Dyslexia Day” on Oct. 6, 2017 at 6:00 pm at the Rio Tinto Stadium (9256 State Street) in Sandy Utah to raise awareness about dyslexia and to celebrate the unique gifts those with dyslexia have.

This event will feature John Rodrigues author of “High School Dropout to Harvard: My Life with Dyslexia” and featured in the PBS Documentary “Road Trip Nations: Being You”. John is an award-winning ice sculptor and will be doing a LIVE ICE CARVING for guests to watch. We will also have a live band, a hot air balloon lighting, a silent auction, face painting, food trucks, games and a book signing.
