Red Wine Tasting Lab
Friday, May 6, 2011 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM (PDT)
Welcome to the Wine Tasting Lab!
Lab coats aren't boring. In this class, we'll explore the roles of acidity, alcohol, oak and tannin by tasting wines that have been doctored. Then, we'll work in teams to identify aromatics of several wines that we've tinker with in the lab. In addition to this sensory exploration of wine, we'll also taste plenty of amazing, undoctored wines as well as we sharpen palates and tighten vocabulary by looking more closely at color, aromatics, flavor and body. It's fun and provides you with a toolbox full of information to break any wine down to nuts, bolts and sub atomic particles.
Each Crushpad seminar explores a different varietal, region or wine making style - all designed to hone your palate and broaden your wine appreciation. While many wine classes simply focus on tasting, these tasting seminars explore how winemaking decisions shape the flavors in your glass. You'll learn to taste from a winemaker's perspective as we unlock the secrets of flavor and texture by tracing each wine from the bottle, back to the barrel, fermentation bin and into the vineyard.
