Special announcement:

Due to the closure of the upper portion of Mission Creek Road, the Red Devil Trail Run 10K course has been changed. The 10k run will now begin and end at the Sandcreek Trailhead in the Wenatchee National Forest. For more on the course: http://www.runwenatchee.com/events/red-devil-trail-run-gets-revamped-10k-course/

The 25K course will remain the same and will start and end at the Sandcreek Trailhead.

On May 3, the Forest Service announced it was closing the upper portion of Mission Creek Road — including access to the Devil's Gulch Trailhead — because of the potential of flooding this spring due to last year's wildfires that left some hillsides barren of vegetation. The Devil's Gulch Trailhead had been slated as the starting spot for the 10K run.

The 25K run will start at 8:45 a.m. June 1 and the 10K run will start at 9 a.m. Both had originally been scheduled to start at 9 a.m., but the earlier start for the 25K is needed to reduce congestion on the trail near the start.

Come join us for the third-annual Red Devil Challenge Trail Runs just south of Cashmere, Wash., on June 1, 2013. We have added two new trail races for 2013: A 10K and a Mini-Devil (1.7 miles). We received great reviews from seasoned runners at last year's event, which featured plenty of fun, including the sighting of a "red devil" along the trail! You don't want to miss this one!

Description: We offer three runs — a 25-kilometer, 10-kilometer and Mini-Devil (1.7 miles) — on single-track trails. The 25K — with the start and finish at Sandcreek Trailhead — is very challenging with about 3,000 feet of elevation gain. This loop spans nicely graded trails that are well maintained and quite buffed out. This loop makes a superb run and will challenge even the most seasoned trail runner. The 10K, which starts and ends at the Sandcreek Trailhead, has an elevation gain of 1,000 feet. The free Mini-Run (1.7 miles in length) starts and ends at the Sandcreek Trailhead. The elevation gain is minimal, which makes this an ideal event for someone — including kids — who wants to test their feet on a trail run.

Start times: 8:45 a.m. for 25K and 9 a.m. for the other two runs. The average finish time last year for the 25K was between 2 and 3 hours.

Start lines: Sandcreek Trailhead, Wenatchee National Forest.

Finish lines: Sandcreek Trailhead, Wenatchee National Forest

Packet pickup: Friday, May 31, 5 to 6 p.m., at Arlberg Sports in downtown Wenatchee; Saturday, June 1, 8 a.m., at the Sand Creek Trailhead

Parking: Parking is extremely limited at the trailhead (see race shuttle info below). A Northwest Forest Pass is required on all vehicles. Family and friends can see the runners near the Devils Gulch Trailhead and the finish area at the Sand Creek Trailhead.

Race shuttles: We will be transporting runners at 8 a.m. Saturday, June 1, from Milepost 111 in downtown Cashmere to the starting point, and then transporting them back to Milepost 111 after they finish. The buses will load at 7:45 a.m. Saturday, June 1.

Essentials: We will have two fully staffed and supplied aid stations on the courses. Stations will have water, energy drink and gels. Runners are encouraged to bring hydration packs/water bottles and or energy food to carry on this course as early June can be warm.

Trash: Leave no trace. Be kind to our beautiful forest environment and clean up after yourself. Please don’t abandon trash.

Views and features: The trails dissect beautiful glades of Ponderosa pines and grasses; cuts through cooler, darker stands of Douglas fir; and traverse ridges with views of the Enchantments, Mission Ridge and other spots in the North Cascades. Runners also will have the opportunity to visit Cashmere and its quaint shops, restaurants and wine tasting rooms.

Course note: This trail is open to all users during the event, so if a runner encounters a mountain biker, motocross rider, hiker, etc., please give the other user the right of way.
