Red Car Trolley Presents: Songs of Poetry and Passion
Sunday, February 16, 2014 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM (PST)
Long Beach, CA
Red Car Trolley will celebrate Valentine’s Day Weekend on February 16, at 4:00 p.m. with a concert entitled Songs of Poetry & Passion at St Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church in Long Beach. The eclectic and able vocal quartet will feature settings of some of the world’s great poets including William Blake, Emily Dickinson, William Shakespeare, and Christina Rossetti. As has become Red Car Trolley’s trademark, the afternoon’s selections will include settings and arrangements by Southern Californian composers, among them: David Avshalomov, William V. Malpede, Kenneth Neufeld, and Dr. Robert Parker.
“I'm really excited about this concert." said William Henderson, Minister of Music and Organist at St. Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church, who invited the quartet to perform immediately after hearing their concert at St. Mark’s, Glendale, last spring.
Joining Red Car Trolley for this concert will be award-winning musical director and pianist Ross Kalling.

St. Thomas of Canterbury Episcopal Church has held a concert series since Bill Henderson has been Minister of Music and Organist of the church. With a bright mid-century Sanctuary, ringing acoustics and fine instrument (Robert Noehren Opus 2 of 36 ranks) St. Thomas is an ideal space for both worship and concerts. Our 2013/14 season began with a concert of Advent music by Bonnie Snell Schindler, mezzo-soprano and Jeffrey Schindler, organ and piano. The Red Car Trolley Quartet joins us on Sunday, February 16 at 4:00 pm for a Valentine concert and Lenten music with Evensong on Sunday, April 6 at 5:00 pm with Brian Asher, cello and Bill Henderson, organ.
