Join author, yoga teacher, and survivor Julie Peters for an intimate look into the process of recovering after sexual assault with her new book Want: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault. While most books about trauma focus on case studies from the perspective of a clinician, here Julie shares her real experience of trying to feel her feelings through the fog of trauma, the important role of rage and anger, how food became a recovery practice, and what love, sex, and dating look like after sexual assault. The book is full of useful tips and information for survivors, the people who love them, and anyone who wants to know what it's like to recover your spirit after someone tried to take it away.

We have plenty of stories about the helplessness, frustration, and vengeful feelings that can follow trauma. Culturally, we have started a conversation about these experiences, and we’re all confused about what this all means for our relationships with each other. We need stories of hope, healing, and recovery. Survivors of assault, if you've been thinking to yourself, "I thought it was just me," Julie is here to show you that you are not alone. Your loved ones may not know how to support you, but they can learn more about your experiences and how to walk alongside you through this book, just as you can learn how to recover from the trauma you've experienced. Want offers a window into one person’s experience of recovery―plus the happy ending we all need to know is possible after trauma.

Julie is a writer and yoga teacher (MA, E-RYT 500, YACEP) in Vancouver, BC, and owns and runs Ocean and Crow Yoga with her mom, Jane. She is a staff writer for Spirituality and Health Magazine and has written for various other publications, online and otherwise. She is the author of Secrets of the Eternal Moon Phase Goddesses: Meditations on Desire, Relationships, and the Art of Being Broken (SkyLight Paths 2016) and WANT: 8 Steps to Recovering Desire, Passion, and Pleasure After Sexual Assault (Mango Media 2019).
