About this Event

2020 Texas District Professional Church Workers Conference

Vision 20/20

On October 19 professional church workers from around Texas came together virtually for this enriching conference. The theme of the conference was Vision 20/20. "One thing I do know, that though I was blind, now I see." John 9:25

Inspirational speaker, author and time management expert Elizabeth Grace Saunders was interviewed by Texas District President Rev. Michael Newman. During this conversational format, Saunders and President Newman discussed "Divine Time Management: Seeing God’s Grace with 2020 Vision During Challenging Times." This session looked at the challenges church workers face and how to best see God’s presence during personal and ministry adversity—and as workers labor to advance God’s mission.

The second session addressed “Divine Time Management: Balancing A Busy Life” to discuss the nuts and bolts of personal time management, hearing some tips, tricks, and hacks for ministry, family and personal planning on a daily, weekly and annual basis.

Saunders is an internationally recognized expert on effective time management and the founder of Real Life E Time Coaching and Speaking. Her company partners with individuals on the journey from feeling guilty, overwhelmed and frustrated to feeling peaceful, confident and accomplished.

Featured breakout speakers included Rev. Dr. Dean Nadasdy & Rev. Dr. Peter Nafzger to speak about "Who's Listening: Preaching in Our Time." These breakouts looked at challenges for preaching Christ in a pre-Christian culture. Additionally, specific to educators, there was a range of speakers and topics:

  • Adolescent Brain Development & Emotional Regulation (Part 1 and 2)—Matt Chambers & Lya Morfitt, Redeemer Lutheran School, Austin, Texas
  • Intentional Care During Tense Time —Karen Merritt, St. Paul, Ft. Worth
  • Looking through the Same Lens—Sharing Your Classroom Vision with Parents, Audrey Stoneburner, Zion, Walburg
  • Transitioning from a Live Classroom to a Virtual Classroom—Stephanie Sauls, Zion Lutheran School, Walburg
  • Why, Why, Why??? (Teaching Science with Discrepant Event Demonstrations): Students learn by discovery—Gary Himmler, Lutheran South Academy, Houston
  • Round Table Discussion on Distant Learning: What worked and what Failed?—Thomas Wrege, Principal, Zion Lutheran School, Walburg
