A note on elevated Ancestors From Reclaiming Recovery Guide, Tamara Lovegrove
"We are connected to those that have come before us through the magickal threads that wove us into being. The Well Ancestors are those that lived a life of inspiration and integrity. We do not need to know who they are in order to receive their blessings, for some of us our Well Ancestors may go back long before the knowing of names and even place of origin.
When we look to connect with the Well Ancestors, we do so through The Great Arc of Time. Perhaps we may go back ten thousand years to connect with the Well Ancestors that existed before the Patriarchy, back to those Well Ancestors who knew the Goddess in her many forms, those that came from women-honouring societies.
We may choose to connect with the Well Ancestors that can support a particular intention we have in our life. So perhaps that may be connecting with the Well Ancestors that cultivated healthy prosperity, or those that held good relationships with their Loved Ones. Through honouring them, we can consciously invite them to share this wisdom with us.
While some may connect with the Well Ancestors from the lineage of their Blood and Bones, those Ancestors that gave them life. Others may connect with the Well Ancestors whose lineage they were adopted into. Or perhaps it is connecting with the Well Ancestors of our chosen family, the lineage of those people in our lives that we intentionally come into close relationship with.
If you come from a broken, destructive, or dysfunctional lineage, I hear you and I see you, and I wish to empower you, as you are your own Spiritual Authority. Knowing that you have the power of clear intention. You have the power within yourself to call upon only that which supports you along your path. "
IN PREPARATION YOU MAY WANT TO HAVE:
- Items to keep you comfortable (blanket, water)
- Journal or something to write in
- A pen or writing instrument
- A space you can claim as sacred
- An altar dedicated to Ancestors - of blood, heart, craft, and guides. Consider adding some offerings these elevated ancestors may cherish and savour
- An open heart and mind
- Be prepared with a vessel of water to be left in the moonlight to charge. This can be done outside or in a windowsill. Keep water clean with a lid or cloth so that you can drink it in the days to come.
Within each ritual we will utilize our spiritual technologies of grounding, creating sacred space, group participation, and closing the container. We suggest having a grounding snack to follow.
ABOUT RECLAIMING RECOVERY COMMUNITY RITUALS
We have come to know from our own experience that through ancient wisdom, honouring the sacred elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water, and Spirit, and practicing Earth-based spirituality, we can deepen our recovery.
We invite you to attend these rituals to investigate and practice the spiritual principles of Reclaiming to discover for yourself if it is valuable to your process of recovery. Intoxication or use of alcohol or drugs are not permitted.
These rituals are recovery-oriented and designed to be a spiritual resource for recovery. They are not a replacement for addiction treatment, psychiatric, or medical care. If you are unsure if this ritual is a fit for you, please contact us.
ABOUT RECLAIMING RECOVERY
Our primary purpose is to offer a reclaiming inspired path to recovery from a myriad of life experiences including addiction, codependency, self-destructive behaviours, trauma, grief, and oppression. Our group recognizes and respects that there are multiple approaches to recovery. We are gathered in the spirit of curiosity for the divine, acknowledging that we are our own spiritual authorities.
Reclaiming Recovery was brought to life on the traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ people. Lək̓ʷəŋən means “Place to smoke herring” and W̱SÁNEĆ means “emerging people” or “emerging land”. We welcome you, dear visitor, to take a moment to acknowledge and honour the Indigenous people of the lands you live, work, and play on. May the spaces we hold contribute to healing the wounds caused by indigenous racism and colonization.
ABOUT THE RECLAIMING TRADITION
Each of us embodies the divine. Our ultimate spiritual authority is within, and we need no other person to interpret the sacred to us. We foster the questioning attitude, and honoUr intellectual, spiritual and creative freedom. We are an evolving, dynamic tradition and [we may] proudly call ourselves witches. Our diverse practices and experiences of the divine weave a tapestry of many different threads. Our community rituals are participatory, celebrating the cycles of the seasons and our lives, and raising energy for personal, collective and earth healing. We welcome all genders, all gender histories, all races, all ages and sexual orientations and all those differences of life situation, background, and ability that increase our diversity.
WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH RECOVERY?
...We are Edgewalkers. Wounded healers. Lover of all things sacred - including ourselves.
...We may have had a (or several) dark nights of the soul. A part of us knows that to be where we are today is equal parts our own resilience, the divine nature within us, and the mystery of what is beyond us.
We have felt before, or may long for, the deep transformational magic that lies within the threads of community.
...We feel the power that lies within our shadow and we are willing to journey into this darkness together, to find the treasures buried here.
...We are sacred stewards of all that is above, within, and below. The earth, the sky, the sun, the moon, ancestors of craft, land, and lineage, the fae, the mystery, and each-other. Why? Because they have been our allies on more than one occasion.
... We value investigation of both science and spirituality.
...We hold the paradox of power and powerlessness. You might even see us smiling about it.
...We seek to harm none - ourselves included.
...We do not suppress our emotions and characteristics, or those of another. Every part of us is welcome here.
...We know that this path is not easy, but is is always worth it.
...We are most magical when we are together.
...We know that intention + expression + action + letting go = potent, transformational, magic.
...Because what happens between the worlds, changes all the worlds.
