Description

SEE FULL PROGRAM HERE

This month-long series is specifically designed to equip youth and young adult service providers with a culturally-specific understanding of their Black girl client-base. This fully-interactive, peer-led series is meant to be a space for learning, a sounding board for Black women (cis- and trans-) who's experiences could inform and enhance direct service provision, an element of self-care for those in the trauma-services sector, and an opportunity to build cross-agency/sector relationships to better serve our clients. Lunch will be provided. Institute attendees can expect to learn about the following topics:

  • Gendering Race: A discussion on the fluidity of gender and sexuality markers in the Black community

  • Black mothering and alternative kinship formations

  • Understanding life-skills and self-sufficiency as it pertains to Black girls in Los Angeles

  • Reducing shame around hygiene and reproductive health

  • Decriminalizing "sassiness"

  • The art of the "code switch"

  • Engaging Black men and boys in serving and supporting Black girls

  • Toxic allies and the importance of multi-lateral representation

*Each session will conclude with a structured opportunity to network with local agencies and services providers

We hope you'll join us for these important discussions and training opportunities. As the event dates draw nearer, more details about speakers, venues and sponsors will be announced. All sessions will take place in the mid-wilshire and downtown LA areas.
