About this Event

A workshop meant for anyone interested in learning about collage, an accessible way to express yourself. For ages 14 and older. We’ll utilize found, recycled, and reclaimed paper as we learn about the artistic process of collage. The workshop will include instruction on materials, tools, and techniques through explanation, demonstration, and hands-on exercises. All materials will be supplied. We’ll also spend time on the all -important aspect of composition, the placement of visual elements or ingredients in a work of art.

Instructors: Carrie Blanche and Michelle Echenique are Board Members of Women Eco Artists Dialog (WEAD).

Carrie Blanche has created art for more than 40 years. Her mediums are mixed media painting, sculpture, photography, and fabrications—both outdoor and indoor. After a career as a Special Education Teacher and high school Art teacher, she joined the Board of Women Eco Artists Dialog (WEAD). WEAD’s commitment to social justice art matches Carrie’s deep affinity for those of us that society quickly discards—our brothers and sisters with disabilities, economic hardships, and homelessness. Carrie is committed to making and supporting eco art and social justice art as part of our everyday lives. She has shifted from working alone in the studio to bringing her work outdoors and into a more collaborative realm with the aim of promoting outsiders' art, outsiders, and the outdoors.

San Francisco-based artist Michelle Echenique utilizes found material in her mixed media work. Using throwaways is key to the work’s impact and intention. She revels in the challenge of repurposing, reshaping, and redefining recognizable material, inviting a new read on the familiar, while highlighting contemporary society’s overconsumption. Outside the studio Michelle is site steward at Hayes Valley Art Works. She is on the Board of Directors and is Treasurer of Women Eco Artists Dialog (WEAD) and is a volunteer artist for Kids & Art. She is a member of Pacific Rim Sculptors.
