Event description

Description

This reception and talk with H. Daniel Peck, John Guy Vassar, Jr., Professor Emeritus of English, Vassar College celebrates the new book Thomas Cole's Refrain: The Paintings of Catskill Creek, published by Three Hills, an imprint of Cornell University Press, to accompany the 2019 exhibition opening at the Thomas Cole Site on May 4. Thomas Cole's Refrain will illuminate masterpieces from major museums and private collections, and explore the deeper meanings of Cole’s Catskill Creek paintings, considered as an integral series for the first time. Spanning Thomas Cole’s mature career, the paintings of Catskill Creek from 1827 to 1845 constitute the most sustained sequence of landscapes the artist ever made.

The event will take place in a private first floor event space at 1A East 77th Street, New York, NY.
