Event description

Description

The Texas Tribune is pleased to present a day-long symposium on rebuilding the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Harvey. Join us as we explore the storm's impacts on the state budget and 86th legislative session; the impact on public education in the region; the business climate and economic development along the coast; whether the population in the affected areas will return and what will be different; and the environmental impact of the devastating storm. Also on the agenda: a one-on-one conversation with John Sharp, the Texas A&M University System chancellor appointed by Gov. Abbott to lead the effort to rebuild Texas.

The full day's schedule and list of panelists will be announced shortly.

This event will be held at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi in the University Center's Anchor Ballroom (#31 on the campus map). This event is free, open to the public and a light breakfast and lunch are included. Paid visitor parking will be available in the Bayside Parking Garage (parking fee not included in registration). Each panel of this event will also be livestreamed at texastribune.org/events.

The Tribune's symposia are modeled on the celebrated Texas Tribune Festival. These one-day, one-topic events bring together experts to present and generate productive conversations on major issues of the day.

This event is supported by Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Anheuser-Busch, the Texas Municipal League, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas, Fibertown, Texas State Technical College, the Texas Association of School Business Officials, The Hackett Center for Mental Health at the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute and Southwest Airlines, the official airline of Texas Tribune Events. It is hosted by Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi. Media support is provided by the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. Foundation support is provided by the Hatton W. Sumners Foundation and the Houston Endowment. Tribune events are also supported through contributions from our founding investors and members. Though donors and corporate sponsors underwrite Texas Tribune events, they play no role in determining the content, panelists or line of questioning.
