Event description

Description

Empowering Communities through ancestral techniques.

The rebozo is a Mexican garment used as an identity cloak that holds power & empowers people, the rebozo has been used since before the conquest by the native communities of Mexico. This element is made on an artisanal back strap loom, taking anywhere from 3 weeks to a year in its elaboration—depending on the quality, complexity and length.

The rebozo is long enough to go around one's body. We can find it in different sizes, colors and materials, they are about 6 feet long. Some of the most important uses of the rebozo are during pregnancy and as an empowerment tool. In this training you will be introduced to a deep understanding of the story, lifestyle uses, and true meaning of the rebozo, from a true indigenous source.

We will have the opportunity to feel how the Rebozo works, the energy behind its making, learn how to give a Rebozo-massage and practice techniques that leverage the rebozo. This class will help to destroy myths created around the rebozo in the United States, and return the true value of the rebozo to its authentic teachers and creators of this powerful element charged with energy and ancestral wisdom. Through this class, we will gain a new appreciation for this ancient Mesoamerican technique.

The instructor—Lucia Gutierrez—received the gift of being raised in a place surrounded by the true uses and customs of the rebozo in her community in Mexico.
