Description

Rebis Lab welcomes Kelly Todd in a 2-hour Physical Storytelling Intensive at Arts on Site in the East Village.

In this intensive, we will be exploring practices and tools for immersive theater:

  • Playing with how we change the energy of the physical space with the tension in our bodies: using techniques from the le coqs states of tension and practices from my own kit

  • Improvisational partnering and touch for site specific and immersive settings

  • Magnifying all the senses to create different worlds within the space

"I am interested in the heightened experience of the present moment and how we share that with other bodies in space." - Kelly Todd

~~~~~~~
Rebis Lab Intensives are free, with a suggested donation of $5-$10 which goes directly to supporting the guest artist. Available to actors and dancers of all backgrounds.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Artist Perspective:
"I was in a very low place in my life – I was a constant disappointment to my father, I was going through what felt like an endless break up, my cat died and the other cat ran away, and I was experiencing one injury after another. I entered the show barely holding back the tears and repeating to myself “I don’t know how I’m going to keep it together for the next three hours”.
I had already completed an hour of the performance and I was about to start my second interaction moment with an audience member. I noticed a young gentleman who had been following me for the past hour and I knew I wanted to give him the one-on-one interaction. We stepped into the tiny room together, I took off his mask, and he greeted me with the most heartbroken smile. There was a sudden crack in time and we both just stood in the kindness of silence. We cried and I barely sputtered out my lines, but it was so pure and honest. These are the moments that make me constantly fall in love with the intimacy of immersive theater. You never know where your audience is coming from, what kind of day they had, or what your story will resonate for them. They are complete strangers one moment, but within seconds they can feel like you’ve known them for lifetimes."
