Event description

Description

A series with Kayla McGowan, a certified Rolfer, designed to improve postural alignment, increase body awareness and reduce chronic pain and tension due to poor posture!

Join us for the entire series, or drop-in as you can!

By tuning into the quality of your movement during daily life, you experience your body both practically, in terms of physical usage, and philosophically, as the expression of your being.

Posture is generated by movement; the way you move will change your posture. In these sequenced classes you will restore your body's alignment.

This class will be easy, practical and fun and well as help develop:
⁃ Patience
⁃ Persistence
⁃ A more adaptive sense of humor

Kayla McGowan is a Certified Rolfer and Reiki Practitioner with Full Body Connection LLC. She thinks in a full, embodied, and connected way. Kayla thoughtfully guides people's bodies to ease through support and adaptability. She has an eclectic background in Gymnastics, Yoga, and Rolfing with a broad scope of understanding the body.

Tue, September 4 - Orienting to Space and Awareness of Breath
If we are well oriented to our surroundings, we can stabilize ourselves in ways that allow our bodies to remain open, relaxed and expressive. We contract in ways that diminish our dimensions, making our bodies shorter, narrower, and flatter, effectively closing the person’s structure. Walking through patterns of breath and orientated skills will open up your sensory receptors to a new feeling.

Tue, October 2 - Recognizing Your Walk:
Just as you might recognize a friend’s walk, you too have your own unique expression. The explorations through this class will help you identify details of your walking style. Giving you more of an understanding and sense of purpose in your walk.

Tue, November 6 - Stability is the Root of Your Posture
To feel stability, we will walk through the relationship of your pelvis and spine. The pelvis is a two-tiered basin. The sacrum is the back wall to the pelvis and root of your spine. Exploring support and adaptability gives more leeway to articulation.

Tue, January 8 - Core Connections
Exploring through the transverse abdominals and breathing. Finding how your inner corset supports your back, head, and legs.

Tue, February 5 - Heart Support
Feeling and understanding the partnership of your upper support system. Supporting the shoulders and the neck to understand our heart.

Tue, March 5 - Expressive Feet = Sassy Spine
The miracle of our feet stimulates the spine. When our feet feel like a bed of rocks, our spine has a resembling impression. When we walk with our whole foot, the lid of our spine softens giving you the feeling of a wave like stride.

Tue, April 2 - Balanced Head = Balanced World
Because of fascial links between the head and neck, any tension in the jaw, nose, and eyes can harden your expression. We will soften these relationships to give you a sensation of a “bobble head.”

Tue, May 7 - How Do Humans Walk?
No one has ever taught us how to walk. The most natural and efficient use of our joints and soft tissue involves all three planes of motion in seamless coordination. Feeling these motions will support your legs stride and spinal movement.

Tue, June 4 - Feeling Integration
To achieve a healthy posture, you need to release any habits that close your body. To do that, you also need to restore fluid motion to parts of the body that do not articulate the way they are supposed to. We will be moving the body in various ways, and in different joints to support your integration.
