REBEKAH SPEER

FACEBOOK | WEBSITE

It is always a cool thing when an artist who has been in the music business for a long time is suddenly “discovered.” In the bluegrass world, this is hopefully about to happen to Rebekah Speer who, through her many talents, is no stranger to some of the most successful folks in the genre.

Speer grew up in Lincolnton, Georgia near the famous musical kinfolk The Lewis Family and spent time touring and playing upright bass with Little Roy Lewis and Lizzy Long, Rebekah’s twin sister. She also played bass in Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike.

Rebekah was one of the first students to graduate from the Glenville State College Bluegrass Certificate Program after it was created in 2002. With a BA in Bluegrass Music and a BA in Music Education under her belt, Speer immersed herself in the bluegrass business working as a recording engineer, graphic designer, video editor while also playing in various bands.

Collaborating closely with the legendary songwriter Dixie Hall, the late wife of Country Music Hall of Famer Tom T. Hall, Speer was the recording engineer and graphic designer for the acclaimed “Daughters of Bluegrass” box set, also adding bass, guitar and vocals to the project.

DARREN BEACHLEY

FACEBOOK | WEBSITE

One of the more seasoned voices and instrumentalists in the world of Americana and bluegrass music, Darren Beachley approaches music like the wide-eyed twenty-something he was so long ago when he began his career. The Maryland native has strung together an impressive and successful thirty-plus-year career in the industry. From the days of playing alongside his mother and father on stage in the DMV area to getting his big break as the Dobro player in Bill Harrell’s band The Virginians, Darren polished his skill set every step of the way. When he became the lead singer and guitarist for Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver he built his name up to become one of the most recognizable in the world as they performed across the globe at some of the most acclaimed venues such as the Hollywood Bowl and The Grand Ole Opry. He would form Darren Beachley & Legends of the Potomac and achieve new heights with his innovative performances and heartfelt lyrics. His unique and powerful vocals and instrumental stylings have carried him across stages and into the hearts of fans and friends. The next step in his career is another chance to cement his legacy while doing the thing he has enjoyed since the days of his childhood.

FAQs:

Where do I park?

Bright Box is located at 15 N. Loudoun St. on the beautiful pedestrian mall in Old Town Winchester. The nearest parking is the Braddock Auto Park at 30 N Braddock St. This is about a block away from the venue. The parking garage does have several handicap parking spaces available.

Once you've parked in the garage you'll exit toward the pedestrian mall. Once you hit N. Loudoun you'll make a right and Bright Box will be on your right a few storefronts up, directly across from the Old Court House Civil War Museum

More information about the garage can be found here: https://www.winchesterva.gov/parking/garage-information

Is there lodging nearby?

There are lots of great and affordable lodging options — from hotels and motels to camp grounds and bed & breakfast spots — just minutes away from Bright Box. Right around the block is the elegant George Washington Hotel, and Courtyard Marriott is quick drive and within a stones throw to the beautiful (and highly recommended) Shenandoah Valley Museum.
