PRE-ORDER THE BOOK

Rebecca Godfrey will talk with author Gary Shteyngart about the new edition of her acclaimed true crime book - the shocking true story of a group of teenagers who savagely beat a classmate to death and then tried to cover up the crime.

Under The Bridge has won multiple awards and found a range of admirers since its original publication in 2005. Now reissued with an introduction by National Book Award nominee Mary Gaitskill, this groundbreaking true crime book remains timely and important with its look at high school violence and the hidden anger and desires of young girls. Highlighting along the way the deeply entrenched social tensions that provoked the murder, Under The Bridge is more than a true-crime book—it is an unforgettable wake-up call.

REBECCA GODFREY’s first novel, The Torn Skirt, was a national bestseller and a finalist for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize. Under The Bridge received one of Canada’s largest literary awards, the British Columbia Award for Canadian Nonfiction, as well as the Arthur Ellis Award for Excellence in Crime Writing. She holds an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, and has received fellowships from Yaddo and The MacDowell Colony. In 2016, she edited and curated the multimedia exhibition, Girls In Trees. She teaches writing at Columbia University, and lives with her family in upstate New York.

GARY SHTEYNGART is the New York Times bestselling author of the novels Lake Success, Super Sad True Love Story, Absurdistan, and The Russian Debutante’s Handbook. His memoir, Little Failure, was named one of the best books of 2014 by more than 45 publications and was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award. His fiction and essays have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Granta, Esquire, GQ, Travel + Leisure, and many others.
