Description

Objectives

#REALTALK serves as a community based program, bridging gaps and resourcing within Buffalo Public Schools and the inner city. #REALTALK bridges fellowship and leadership through community service, arts, education and individual development for high school students. We believe in power sharing and creating open systems that provide experiences of shared ownership. Through our 9 Principles we guide students in taking an active role in building their leadership skills and providing an ownership and collaborative effort amongst peers.

Networking and interpersonal skill building workshops are implemented to improve communication, advocacy and esteem. It is our mission to raise enough resources to give back to the city of Buffalo in forms of community service and outreach. Using coaching techniques and collaborative language, participants are introduced to new strategy skill building to improve the quality of their lives. We encourage new forms of communication through art educational workshops, sports, panel discussions, TED Talks and #RealTalk circle.

Demonstrated Need

#REALTALK is a community outreach initiative created to serve as a community based program bridging gaps and providing various resources and consultation for effective change for studetns. Its purpose is to create a career based pathway for students using their voice through music, arts education and community services. We encourage participants and volunteers to apply and lead by the principles of #REALTALK. To provide a consciousness to their daily living, behaviors and healthy mind. With intent to highlight and reform social/emotional patterns, barriers and gaps within the school system and communities, #REALTALK is a movement of change. This program was formed to provide students` access to city resources and exposure to their cultures. To teach respect and integrity, empowerment and confidence needed to succeed. The purpose is to create jobs and resource communicative needs. Raise educational and mental health awareness by offering unique collective groups.
