8:40-9:40AM - · STEM through Stories: Simple Ways to Spark Problem Solving in Your Classroom - Children’s books are full of curious characters, tricky situations, and real-world challenges, perfect entry points for STEM learning. In this workshop, we’ll explore how to use picture books to introduce STEM concepts. We will also explore simple ways to bring STEM into your classroom without any extra stress.(Presented by Brenda Cuberto, co-founder and co-owner of Robots and Mudpies Preschool)
9:50-10:50AM - Advocacy and Storytelling - Discover how your voice can drive change in early childhood policy. Through storytelling techniques and hands-on advocacy tools, this session will help you connect with lawmakers and elevate the needs of young children and the professionals who support them. (Presented by Shemik Sellars, owner and operator of Legacy House Preschool)
11AM - 12:30PM - The Wonder and Magic of Loose Parts – Almost any item, from rocks to corks to scraps of fabric can be used as loose parts. This session will explore these opened-ended, child-directed materials, and how to use loose parts in your learning environment. (Presented by Tarneshia Evans, Early Childhood Director of Education, Weinstein JCC )
