The Reality of Sourcing Local with Kevin Jamison

Kevin Jamison is the founder of two bustling cafes in Virginia Beach and Norfolk serving local, seasonal and sustainable fare. Commune was founded on the philosophy that the best tasting food just also happens to be the freshest and healthiest food both for the eater and our environment. Prior to opening Commune, Kevin gained experience as a local sustainable farmer who worked directly with chefs and restaurant owners for years.

Kevin also owns New Earth Farm, a 21 acre, all natural, working and educational farm located in the Pungo area of Virginia Beach. New Earth supplies his restaurants in addition to a few others in the area, runs a CSA program and houses an on-site market. Kevin will discuss the realities of local sourcing, the challenges they face, and why it's important.

We will enjoy samples from Albion Tea Co. and Orange Dot Baking Company. Real Local meetings are open to both members and those interested in a more sustainable food system. We just ask that you register in advance.

Here's what to expect:

• Our meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. Spend a few minutes networking with like minded local food supporters, and enjoy some coffee and samples from our sponsors Albion Tea Co. and Orange Dot Baking Co.

• At 10:45 we'll get the meeting going with a welcome and a few announcements from Real Local RVA. We'll hand it off to our speakers by 11:00 a.m. with plenty of time for a Q&A after.

• Following the speaker we'll hear a few words from our sponsors, and then we'll open the floor for announcements from the audience. Come prepared to share a quick 30 second announcement from your business on exciting news, an upcoming event, or something you need help with.

• We'll leave a few minutes at the end for making connections with fellow attendees.
