Real Black Friday: Online Black History Marathon
Event Information
About this Event
Join us Friday November 27 at 6pm for "Real Black Friday: An Online Black History Marathon." In this online presentation we will highlight portions of some of our most popular Black films and presentations.
With the climate of the year 2020, we know that instead of spending money frivolously, some people will be looking to satisfy their hunger for knowledge and history on Black Friday. We have decided to step up and fulfill that need.
When the pandemic struck earlier this year we decided to transition our activities online; showing our films and online presentations via Zoom. As a Black owned and operated film company, the response has been beautiful. Since April we have been able to broaden our support system and reach an international audience.
We've had thousands of people join us from all over the globe to learn more about the Black experience.
Our history, our perspective and our struggle came more to light in 2020 as protests sparked by the murder of George Floyd sparked a global response of outrage.
During this time we have done our best to shed light on the history and patterns of racism and discrimination that continue to manifest themselves in different ways; while also highlighting our accomplishments and resolve as a people.
The ability of Black Americans to overcome obstacles is unmatched and our story must continue to be told.
This is what we specialize in: telling our story!
In this online marathon we will showcase the following films and presentations:
- Message to the People: A Story of Malcolm X - A historical dramatization based on the life and words of Malcolm X.
- Walk on the River 2.0: The African Influence in San Antonio, TX - A Documentary touching on the African Influence in America before Columbus, the Moorish Influence on Spain and history of the Black Madonna.
- The Case for Reparations - A look at the history of the reparations movement as well as the viability of it today.
- The Lynching of Black America - A look at the history of extrajudicial murders of Black people and examples of it today.
- Here We Stand: The Black Athletes/Activist - A look at Black athletes who have been willing to come forward and truly take a stand against racism, segregation and oppression while enduring great personal sacrifice.
- Celebrating Black Women in the Struggle - A historical look at Black women throughout the diaspora, who have made a mark and shaped the culture.
We will show a segment of each presentation and a discussion the history and details of each. Afterwards we will show you how you can access all of the videos in their entirety.
