Event Details

Target audience: K-12 teachers and leaders

Do your students find independently reading complex texts difficult? Come learn about common reading issues for elementary age children and adolescents and what you can do about it!

This workshop focuses on the explicit teaching of word attack skills and active reading strategies across content areas. Teachers will be able to help their students break down, annotate, analyze, and write about complex texts, which in turn will accelerate student growth and support College and Career Readiness.

Participants will:

  • Explore research on common issues faced by struggling young and adolescent readers
  • Learn how explicitly teaching "word attack" skills and targeted word study can close reading gaps
  • Explore powerful strategies to support students in gaining a deeper understanding of core content
  • Participate in collaborative activities that model effective teaching practices and accelerate learning

Please note the following important details:

  • Purchase Orders (PO's) must be received prior to first day of workshop...no exceptions!
Please email request for invoice and copies of PO's to LManderson@acoe.org.
  • This is a technology-infused session; please bring your laptop or tablet.
  • Sign-in begins 30 minutes prior to listed start time.
