The Reading Round scheme was set up to create a space where readers can discover original writing and also rediscover the joys of hearing stories and poems in a friendly group. Other Reading Round groups have run across the country and the feedback has always been very positive.

The Darlington Reading Round is an informal reading group that takes place in The Meeting Room at The Quaker Meeting House in Darlington on Saturdays from 1:00pm-2:30pm and is open to all.

Alongside the RLF, local playwright and poet Harry Man has selected literature from around the world for us to explore, with an emphasis on literature that is both unusual and transporting.

You do not need any special knowledge of literature to attend, it’s all about experiencing the joy of a new bit of fiction and poetry and seeing what we thought and having a chat.

This is an ideal group if you're interested in trying or reading something new, meeting new people in the area, or wanting to share the joy of reading with other people.

"People call it ‘the highlight of their week’ and even ‘life-enhancing!'," commented Katharine McMahon, novelist and Head of Outreach with the Royal Literary Fund. "The discussions get very lively too, and the fact that each group is guided by a writer means there are always new insights and discoveries."

Accessibility: The Meeting Room is on the ground floor. It is fully wheelchair accessible. There is parking available for disabled users and wheelchair users.

Waiting List: If tickets are sold out, please email harry.man@rlfeducation.org.uk and you can be put on the waiting list.
