Description

Title: Beyond Blending and Segmenting: Advanced Phonemic Awareness Instruction

Presenter: Dr. Pamela Kastner from PaTTAN (Pennsylvania Training and Technical Assistance Network)

Description:

This presentation will focus on the research evidence related to phonemic awareness to advanced levels specifically as it relates to instruction for primary students in grades Kindergarten through Second Grade.

Participants will learn how to successfully implement direct, explicit, systematic and multisensory phonemic awareness instruction into daily classroom practice (the Heggerty Curriculum). Instructional practices shared will support students’ consistent engagement with manipulating sounds at the word, syllable, onset-rime, and phoneme level.

Additionally, free phonemic awareness resources will be offered to complement and supplement core instructional materials. Finally, implementation suggestions and scaling up processes learned from a large, study underway will be offered.
