About this Event

Our aim this year is to share some of the brilliant reading projects in prison but also to explore and debate the obstacles on both sides – organisations trying to run reading initiatives and the prison staff who make them happen.

The day will include two panels: Wading through porridge? Why prison reading projects work – or don’t and Working with words: from canteen sheets to Charles Dickens. There will also be hands-on workshops on areas that PRG groups may want to explore: philosophy, drama, poetry, family reading, working with emergent readers, managing tricky members and moments.

We will shortly be releasing the full programme for the day, which will include author talks and contributions from prison governors, staff and ex-prisoners.

The event is free but booking is essential.
