Event Details

Studies show that 1 in 3 students struggle with reading traditional text. Reasons for this can vary between visual, processing, decoding, ESL, vocabulary, previous contextual knowledge and overall reading fluency. What is staggering is that at least 50% of these student's struggles can be reduced or eliminated by selecting a different font, increasing the space between lines and characters, and changing background colors. Knowing this information, it compels educational programs to move towards electronic text sources to accommodate ALL students. This workshop will address how to access text from a wide variety of sources that allow students to read in the way that best accommodates their individual reading styles; from e-text to audio sources, from paid to free and from minimal supports to resources that allow ANY student to access text. Learn how to access books on any platform (Mac, PC, Chrome, iOS, Android), check out books from your public library as well as free tools that are available to provide text to struggling students. This workshop is a must for students, families, and teachers. Come and "open your eyes" to the new world of reading!"
