About this event

STEM Focus - Mechanical Engineering

Book - No Small Potatoes: Junius G. Groves and His Kingdom in Kansas

STEM inspiration with diverse books, and the fun of having kids use all kinds of materials to solve a special STEM challenge is our idea of summer fun. "Move Those Spuds" is the 4th of the Readers, Makers, and Shakers 2021summer programs. And what's more, we mail your child a Maker's Kit to use for the program!

We will use the book "No Small Potatoes: Junius G. Groves and His Kingdom in Kansas," a story about African American farmer Junius G. Groves who was called "The Potato King of the World," as our inspiration. Children will pretend that they are just starting out in farming and need to build their own heavy lifting machine. In each program we honor children's effort, creativity, and celebrate their ability to solve and work through problems. These are traits of STEM stars.
