FAQs for ReaderCON:

Okay, so what’s the address of where this event is going to be held?

The La Quinta Public Library is located at 78275 Calle Tampico on the Civic Center Campus in the beautiful city of La Quinta. Check out the map for more details.

So, really, this event is FREE?

Yes! The only requirement is a Riverside County Library System (RCLS) library card.

Do I need this Riverside County Library System library card to pre-register?

What if I don't have a library card? How do I get one? How much does it cost?

Details, details! Are you ready..?

If you don't have a card, go to your nearest Riverside County Library System Library (RCLS). Here's the website where you can find a library nearby: Riverside County Library System

A table will be set up outside the library to distribute applications on the day of the event but you are welcome to get one beforehand.

All patrons who have never had an RCLS card and want one to check out materials from the library will need to fill out an application. We will need to see your valid and current State issued ID/Driver's License in order to recieve a library card. If you are from out of state and live in California 6 months out of the year, we will need your State ID/DL as above, but also proof that you live in California (property tax bill does nicely). These cards are free.

If you don't want to check out materials from our library, you can get a free "Internet Only" card. You will not need to fill out an application. Local patrons can also get this card. This card will let you pre-register/register for ReaderCON.

If you are from out of state and don't live in California for 6 months out of the year, and still want to check out the great graphic novels and manga we have, you can get a "Out of State" card. You will need to fill out an application and we will need to see your ID/DL same as above. This card costs $10.00. You will be able to use it to pre-register/register for ReaderCON.

If you have had a card before, but lost it, you will need to get a replacement card. We will need to see your ID/DL as above. They cost $1.00. After you get it, you can pre-register/register for ReaderCON.

If you have had a card, but its out of date, we can update it for you for free. We will need to see your ID/DL same as above. After it is updated, you can go to the Registration Table and sign in.

Please note: Any fines incurred prior to the event will remain intact, and will not affect your ability to join in the fun.

Once you have your card in hand, you can pre-register here or on the day of the event. Go straight to the Registration Table to sign in!

Will my Rancho Mirage Library and my Palm Springs Library card work?

What if my child wants a library card?

You will need to fill out a Library Card Application for your child (aged 17 and under). The application will need the child's parent/guardian's signature and State issued ID/Driver's License number. A table will be set up outside the library to distribute applications on the day of the event but you are welcome to get one beforehand.

Please note: Children cannot be alone in the library if they are 12 and under. A parent must be with them at all times.

What if I don't want a library card?

In lieu of having/getting a library card to enter the event, you can give a suggested donation of $5 to the Friends of the La Quinta Library on the day of the event. Your donation gets you the orange "Friend for the Day" tote bag. Inside is a wrist band that you can wear that will allow you to be a part of the festivities.

The Friends of the La Quinta Library is a chapter of the Friends of the Desert Libraries, a 501 c(3) non-profit organization. All donations and proceeds received support free library programs and events. You will only be able to register the day of the event to get this bag!

Please note: The La Quinta Library staff cannot make change! If you need to get cash, please visit the nearest ATM  across the street at the First Bank building.

Well, what if I don't want to donate either?

It's fine. But you need to have a badge to enjoy the cool things we are doing. And... you will miss out on the cool Palm Springs Comic-Con bag.

WAIT, what? A Palm Springs Comic-Con bag?? Now I'm curious!

There will be three different types of bags: A white Palm Springs Comic-Con bag, a blue plastic La Quinta Library bag, and an orange Friends of the Library tote bag.

Those who pre-register will recieve a white Palm Springs Comic-Con bag filled with special incentives, including the lanyard, badge and 20 tickets for the Carnival. Five random attendees will also get a single day Palm Springs Comic-Con ticket for the next event.

Those who register the day of the event will get the blue La Quinta Library bag. There is a lanyard, incentives and 10 tickets for the Carnival.

Those who donate to the Friends will get the orange "Friend for the Day" tote bag. It will feature an "I love Reading" bracelet and 10 Carnival tickets. Like pre-registrants, it will have different incentives and the money you dontate is going towards funding programs for the La Quinta Library.

Please note: All incentives are available while supplies last!

Did you say Palm Springs Comic-Con tickets?!

Yes! These will be honored at the 2nd annual Palm Springs Comic-Con located in the Palm Springs Hard Rock Hotel on November 11 and 12, 2017 (not to be confused with the Comic-Con Palm Springs).

I am only getting 10 tickets for the Carnival? What if I want more?

If you want more tickets, a donation of $5 to the Friends of the Library will get you 20 more tickets.

What are the different ways to donate at the event?

You can use cash or check. You must have exact change however, if you use cash.

If you pay with check, please provide your ID/DL number and expiration date. All donations must be over $5 and made out to the Friends of the La Quinta Library.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

You can enter the La Quinta Library parking lot off of Calle Tampico or Main St. The first row of covered parking is designated for disabled library patrons and VIP's. The second row for patrons and vendors/special guests. The third one is for RC staff and volunteers.

The asphalt parking lot to the left (facing the Library) is for anyone. If necessary, the gravel parking lot will be opened and designated for ReaderCON attendees.

There is a SunLine bus stop right next to the library (going out of the Cove) on Calle Tampico. The one for entering the Cove is at the Ralph's Shopping Center, across the street. This is the Line 70. Please use the cross walk!

Will there be a Cosplay Contest?

Because we had such a great response for ReaderCON 2015 (and it was really just too hard to pick just one), we decided this year to have a parade instead.

All participants will get an incentive for joining in it. It will be arranged by age, from the youngest to the oldest.

The Parade will be at 3:00 pm, and you must be a ReaderCON: Year 2 attendee to join in.

Will there be food available?

While food is not allowed in the library, there are several restaurants across the street in the Ralph's Shopping Center: A Subway, Starbucks, Pizza Hut and Chinese food. There is also a Circle K, Jule's Market, Domino's, and a carneceria (meat market) west on Calle Tampico.

There will be no food vendor trucks this year.

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

Can I update my registration information?

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

Yes, this is preferred so that we can check you in more easily. Otherwise, we can look you up. Just show your library card.

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

Are you into social media?
