Event description

Description

Held annually in celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd, Read Across America Day is part of the National Education Association's program to motivate children to read.

It is with great pleasure that Black River United Way introduces our FIRST ever Third Grade Reading Pep Rally!

This event will last from 10AM-11AM. Very similar to United to Read, volunteers will read “Fox in Socks” to a third grade classroom. After 20 minutes of reading and interacting with the students, all third grade students will enter the multi-purpose room of the school where they will receive a cupcake. Once all students are seated, there will be a guest speaker from Black River United Way that will give a small motivation speech to the children. During the last 15 minutes, the pep squad who will consist of our awesome volunteers, the faculty and staff of each school, etc. will pep the students up with singing songs, chanting cheers, and having pure fun!

In light of Read across America, celebrating Dr. Seuss's Birthday, and focusing on our Third Grade Initiative, we wanted to do something different for the third grade students to get them pumped and excited before their big SC Ready test. We hold pep rallies to get kids excited about football. Why don't we do something to get kids excited about reading?

We hope to have another successful reading event that can continue annually, however we cannot do anything without volunteers.

Please remember, first come first serve at the Elementary School of your choice!
