Join special guest and DOE SunShot team member Ammar Qusaibaty and RE-volv Executive Andreas Karelas to discuss the Solar in Your Community Challenge, a new U.S. Department of Energy initiative.
Ammar will share what it's about and how it plays into the bigger picture of strengthening America's clean energy economy. Andreas will explain our work with the Department of Energy, provide RE-volv updates, and share ways for you to get involved with RE-volv. Ammar Qusaibaty supports the U.S. Department of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy soft cost team and manages the SunShot Prize: Race to 7-Day Solar, Catalyst Energy Prize, Orange Button Data, and projects with NREL and LBNL. Ammar co-established the Center for Advanced Defense Studies, a nonprofit organization in Washington, DC focused on information and security. Ammar has been recognized as EERE's Energy Rock Star in 2015 for his work on the Catalyst Energy Prize. Ammar holds a Ph.D. from University of Paris I, where he earned the highest distinction for his doctoral thesis, an M.S. from the University of Oxford, and an MBA from Georgetown University. He currently works at Allegheny Science and Technology.
Andreas Karelas is a dedicated renewable energy advocate with over ten years of environmental and renewable energy nonprofit experience. Prior to founding RE-volv in 2011, he worked with a number of leading organizations including the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), the National Audubon Society, blueEnergy, and the Center for Resource Solutions. Andreas holds Master’s degrees in International Affairs and in Natural Resources and Sustainable Development, and a Bachelor’s degree in Economics. He is a 2014 Audubon Toyota TogetherGreen Conservation Leadership Fellow and a 2016 OpenIDEO Climate Innovation Fellow. He also serves on the Steering Committee of the Local Clean Energy Alliance.
