RC First Steps ACP Facilitator Certification Course
Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (CST)
To assist participants in learning communication and interview skills for patient-centered advance care planning facilitation
The participants will learn to:
- Identify interview skills for facilitating First Steps advance care planning (ACP) conversations
- Identify interview skills for facilitating First Steps ACP conversations with adults with chronic illness
- Create strategies to communicate the plan including the completion of an advance directive document
- Examine the ACP facilitator's role in implementing three key systems for ACP effectiveness
- Demonstrate beginning competency in facilitating First Steps ACP conversations through role-play activities
The certification process consists of:
Completing four Respecting Choices® Online Facilitator Course online modules (6.25 contact hours) prior to the workshop
Practicing an ACP discussion after completing the online modules and before the workshop
Practicing completing an Honoring Your Wishes Health Care Directive and bringing it to the workshop
Demonstrating competency in facilitating a discussion about basic advance care planning
- Attending all-day workshop (nursing contact 7.5 hours)
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
Registration fee will be returned by January 6, 2017. Online modules will b purchased on Jan. 9th. Online instructions will be sent out to participants the second week of January.

Beverages, sweet breads and light snacks will be provided. Lunch will not be served. You may bring a lunch during the break or visit a local restaurant. The temperature in the room may vary. Log-in directions for the on-line work, the Honoring Your Wishes Health Care Directive, and additional information will be sent to you approximately one month prior to the course.
What if I want to attend a RC Last Steps workshop? Will my on-line work be credited?
Yes, if you take the RC Last Steps workshop within the next twelve months. RC Last Steps workshops are intended for health care professionals only. For more information, please contact the Course Director, Jane Dohrmann, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
