Welcome to the RBG Y5 and Y6 CREST Event! Join us for a fun-filled day of science exploration at Plumstead Manor School.

Machines of the Future: CREST Discovery Award

The CREST Discovery Award is designed for students aged 10 and above and gives them the opportunity to explore a scientific topic in depth over a day-long KS2 conference. All students who participate will receive an official CREST Discovery certificate. The day is facilitated and led by Frances Thapen, Be Great in Greenwich lead.

Join us for a day of exploring the world of machine learning.

Who:

· 6 students made up from Y5 and Y6 classes who have shown an interest and aptitude for STEM projects.

· 1 staff member who will be responsible for the students learning and behaviour during the day.

· Please keep in mind STEM minority groups while choosing your students e.g. girls and disadvantaged students.

What:

During the day students will work in a team to

· Explore the roles of computers in our current world

· Use evidence from case studies to work out how machines learn.

· Try some free machine-learning software.

· Develop their own idea for a machine that could learn how to help humans.

· Give a brief presentation on their ideas for the rest of the schools taking part in the day.

Please note: Students and staff should bring healthy, nut-free snacks and lunch for the day, and also a water bottle each. Students should also bring a pencil case and where possible a note pad, although paper will be available on the day.
