Karmandan Productions Present
They say some of the best ideas start out as a joke. Creator Erwin Khachikian came up with the name "Karmandan" (Farsi), which translates to "The Employees", while on tour with a very famous Persian singer. Though amusing and slightly sarcastic, it is good-intentioned, honest, and a friendly reminder that most musicians - though their lives are seemingly glamorous - are often overworked and underpaid; their labor is one of love. Though much has changed for Erwin since he came up with the name (having gone on to tour, perform, and collaborate with the likes of Serj Tankian from System of A Down, The Foo Fighters, Jerry Cantrell from Alice In Chains, and many more), his mission remains the same: to create music with honesty and integrity and work with other like-minded artists.
Check out LA-based KARMANDAN Productions' latest artist, Iranian-American rising star Rana Mansour:
Rana Mansour’s compelling and adept vocals add soul and fervor to Erwin’s systematic and meticulous arrangements, while the culturally diverse and dapper dudes of the band Karmandan (translates to “The Employees”) play on. East-meets-West is the theme of their set list; where original songs are performed in a blend of pop/jazz in Farsi, English, and Armenian, all translated into the universal language of music. Since forming in 2013, the collaborative project has performed in numerous world music festivals across the globe and has appeared on major television networks, broadcasting to millions of viewers worldwide.
