Event description

Description

"Education of the head without education of the heart is no education at all" - Aristotle

There are 1.8 billion young people living on the planet today - that's the largest generation of young people the world has ever seen. This digital generation will be the future of our world but they are shaped by the experiences, knowledge and compassion they are shown during their most formative years. A lack of love and understanding fuels hatred and wars in many countries, and in the UK this social and community disconnection leads to agression, criminal behaviour and gang culture. Your experience and skills can help do something about this problem.

The most powerful impact happens in person

The Rainmaker Campfire was conceptualised as a space where brilliant minds gather together to spark meaningful change: helping two charities turn some of their greatest challenges into exciting opportunities.

Why campfires? Humans have been rallying around campfires for millennia. They have provided not just warmth, light, and sustenance, but also bore opportunities for collaboration capable of making their experience of life richer and more meaningful.

Although our Campfires are metaphorical, they share the same focus on collaboration and harnessing collective wisdom. For each Campfire we bring together a carefully selected panel of talented entrepreneurs, visionary philanthropists, and impact leaders for an inspiring, and deeply meaningful session.

We are now inviting you to be part of this, bringing your wealth of skills and experience to help the charities in this year’s Rainmaker Accelerator programme drive positive change. Simply RSVP and we’ll confirm your place.

Charities Presenting on the 7th December:

Think Equal

Think Equal seeks to empower change through education and ensure children of all genders, ethnicities, religions and other backgrounds have the best opportunities to develop their full potential.

Today, prejudice across the world is rife and affects nearly all of us at some stage. The consequences of these experienced inequalities are staggering and long-lasting for both individuals, communities and nations. Unfortunately, the education system has not adapted responsively to tackle this issue.

Think Equal seeks to address this by including social and emotional learning as a compulsory component of education curricula around the world, starting at the very formative stages of a child’s development. ThinkEqual is piloting their equality studies curriculum with 56 schools across 15 countries with Yale Centre of Emotional Intelligence measuring the behaviour change results over 10 years.

MAC-UK

MAC-UK works to transform mental health services for excluded young people who offend, or are at risk of offending, to effect positive change.

Excluded young people involved in gangs and anti-social behaviour are among the 5% who commit 50% of youth crime. One in three young people who offend have an unmet mental health need that can result in anti-social behaviour and violence.

MAC-UK has developed ‘Streetherapy’ as part of their Inegrate model – taking mental health support typically offered in clinics onto the streets where excluded young people are to provided support where and when it is needed. In this way, teams of mental health clinicians are using helping to break down the barriers between young people and the services they need.
