Event description

Description

Social innovation is needed now

Today, we have a growing problem with community cohesion and inclusivity. There are 7 million unpaid carers in the UK, with almost half of them feeling socially isolated. At the other end of the spectrum, we have a growing number of diverse young people who want to become more involved in the art form of classical music but feel unable and excluded. We need to challenge mainstream norms to break down the barriers that marginalise and ignore people. Social innovation is needed now - and your experience and skills can help do something about this problem.

The most powerful impact happens in person

The Rainmaker Campfire was conceptualised as a space where brilliant minds gather together to spark meaningful change: helping two charities turn some of their greatest challenges into exciting opportunities.

Why campfires? Humans have been rallying around campfires for millennia. They have provided not just warmth, light, and sustenance, but also bore opportunities for collaboration capable of making their experience of life richer and more meaningful.

Although our Campfires are metaphorical, they share the same focus on collaboration and harnessing collective wisdom. For each Campfire we bring together a carefully selected panel of talented entrepreneurs, visionary philanthropists, and impact leaders for an inspiring, and deeply meaningful session.

We are now inviting you to be part of this, bringing your wealth of skills and experience to help the charities in this year’s Rainmaker Accelerator programme drive positive change. Simply RSVP and we’ll confirm your place.

Charities presenting on 4th December:

The Multi-Story Orchestra

The Multi-Story Orchestra is working to break down the barriers associated with classical music, creating an alternative culture around the art form for future generations and fostering a new and flexible approach amongst orchestral musicians.

Believing that classical music has a huge amount to offer people from all backgrounds, but that it's broader appeal has been limited by context, Multi-Story creates unique performance environments - from car parks to schools.

By re-contextualising high quality classical music Multi-Story attract new audiences and invigorates communities. In addition, they run Choir Projects bringing together whole school classes and local community groups to share exceptional music with as many people as possible.

Carefreebreaks

Carefreebreaks is a social enterprise bringing the sharing economony to social care. Unpaid carers are the invisible backbone of the health and social care system with an estimated 7 million in the UK providing 80% of all home care today. For many of these carers a break is a lifeline, not a luxury.

Carefreebreaks connects carers in need of accomodation with owners willing to generously donate weeks of accommodation during the low season. Having worked with Carer Servcies, Carer Trade Bodies, holiday cottage companies, and individuals to successfully facilitate 60 breaks todate Carefreebreaks are now working towards launching their fully automated 'Air BnB style' platform in late 2017.
