ADD A DASH OF MYSTERY TO YOUR WRITING
SELL YOUR STORIES LIKE THE PROS DO
Join us for a day-long two-session seminar on techniques used by acclaimed authors to write great stories, and the promotional activities they use to increase book sales. Learn writing techniques from multi-award-nominated mystery author James Ziskin. Get new marketing skills from Beth Jusino, who “wrote the book” on self-promotion. Between them, these experienced professionals will cover a wide variety of techniques to accelerate your writing career. Not just for mystery writers. These techniques apply whether you write mysteries, thrillers, romance, science fiction—you name it!
James W. Ziskin is the author of the Edgar-, Anthony-, Barry-, and Lefty-nominated Ellie Stone Mysteries. A linguist by training, James studied Romance languages and literature at the University of Pennsylvania. After completing his graduate degree, he worked in New York as a photo-news producer and writer, and then as Director of NYU’s Casa Italiana. He spent fifteen years in the Hollywood post production industry, running large international operations in the subtitling/localization and visual effects fields. Jim will take a deep dive into the craft of mystery writing, from outline to finished work. He will discuss the various elements that make or break a story: plotting, characters, clues, style, first drafts, revisions—even titles and covers.
Beth Jusino believes that marketing is not a bad word, and might even be something writers can enjoy. She's a full-time publishing consultant, award-winning writer, developmental editor, and teacher with sixteen years of experience helping writers navigate the complicated space between writing and publishing. She is the author of The Author’s Guide to Marketing: Make a Plan That Attracts More Readers and Sells More Books (You Might Even Enjoy It). Beth is the former Director of Author and Book Marketing for an author services company, and prior to that she spent five (long) years as a literary agent. In every position, she has helped writers identify their strengths and build their audiences, often before they've even finished their books.
