From "ISMS" To Allies: Using Power & Privilege For Good
Even if you missed Part 1 during R/ADWEEK, you are still welcome to join us for this session. It will build off of what we did in the first workshop but there will be a quick recap to start the session.
Description
In this second workshop of our two-part series, we’ll build upon our understanding of how one’s personal identities and experiences intersect to create an organizational culture. In particular, we’ll explore how structural “ISMS” (sexism, classism, and racism in particular) lock power and privilege in place. Plus, we’ll develop strategies to leverage that power and privilege as allies to groups and individuals targeted by racism.
Same as session one, we promise our time together will be interactive, experiential, and informative. We look forward to enhancing our shared responsibility for creating thoughtful, truly welcoming workplaces.
Our facilitators Navie James and Steve Jarose are from the National Coalition Building Institute (NCBI). The nonprofit’s mission is to eliminate racism and all forms of oppression and discrimination. They believe people are more open to dialogue when they feel valued and appreciated, rather than being made to feel guilty. Creating safe spaces to take risks, listen and learn is what they’re good at – and what we’re looking forward to! Please come ready to engage.
