Radicals Assemble! Demand Utopia!
Date and time
Description
DEMAND Utopia! presents an evening exploring the ideas behind the exhibition Promising Home at the People's History Museum. The evening will host talks by Professor Loretta Lees speaking on 'Gentrification & Displacement' and Dr Nicholas Mansfield on ‘Owenites, Chartists to Clarion Socialists and their educational spaces’ which offers some context for IUD’s temporary research space, an interactive environment for sharing and learning, which was launched at the People’s History Museum in October 2016.
There will be readings by the Institute of Urban Dreaming (IUD) and guests, popup exhibitions and a screening of Estate, A Reverie by Andrea Luka Zimmerman. DEMAND Utopia! also sees the launch of All Materials of Value, an IUD publication featuring responses by people who have walked with IUD on the Salford housing estate, along with broader issues to do with the commodification of council housing.
