Event description

Radical Self-Care Over Political Trauma Stress: Turn Anxiety and Fear into Resiliency and Resistance Minneapolis

~ Come together with like-minded socially conscious humans to discuss the emotional, psychological and physical impacts of Political Trauma Stress (PTS) and learn sustainable strategies for self-care and personal wellness.

~Oppression Fatigue, as it relates to trauma, PTS and PTSD, will be explored in safe and open ways.

What is "Radical Self-Care"? What is “Political Trauma Stress”?

  • Discuss the definitions of trauma, PTSD, oppression fatigue, and Political Trauma Stress (PTS*)
  • Explore the links between the current social – political climate and “PTS,” trauma/PTSD, and "oppression fatigue"

Impact on Me:

  • How is the current climate impacting my physical, emotional, psychological health and well-being, and my sense of safety in the world?
  • Who is my involvement on social media, in political conversations, political activism or movement work impacting me?
  • How are your various degrees of privilege and oppression experiences impacting you?
  • My current self-care and well-being habits – quick personal assessment

Impact On Our Bodies:

  • Science behind our brain and body’s reactions to threats (perceived or real)
  • Our primal self-protection reactions to stress: fight, flee and freeze
  • Scientifically proven methods to calm our bodies and gain more agency over our emotions of anxiety and fear

My Radical Self-Care Plan:

  • My definition of self-care
  • Blocks to your self-care you
  • My self-care, personal values and self-compassion
  • Discuss “14 Free Self-Care Strategies” – researched and free to do
  • Come away with "My Self-Care Plan for the Socially Conscious"

* PTS is not an official diagnosis in the DSM manual of mental health diagnosis. It is a name that I coined - though there are other versions of the same out there
