Event description

Transform Your Relationship by Telling the Truth in cabins surrounded by spring forests and lake

Radical Honesty couples retreat in Finland (18-22 May 2018)

This is the first ever Radical Honesty couples retreat in Europe and we’re excited as hell to support you in creating more honesty and deep connection, love, sex and compassion in your relationship.

We’ll spend five days and four nights together in Finnish lakeside cottages, surrounded by a lush pine forest in light green spring colors by a lake. The retreat will include daily workshop sessions, free time for walking in the forests, spending time with your partner and others, relaxing and nightly Finnish saunas. This retreat will be limited to six couples.

This workshop is for you if

  • you want deeper love, connection & intimacy in your relationship

  • you want to experience more freedom and happiness

  • you want to let go of shame, fear and attachment to approval in your relationship

  • you want to get over anger, use conflict creatively and go beyond blame

  • you desire to learn the art of asking for what you want

  • want to heal your relationship and find forgiveness

The workshop is not for you if you

  • don't want to tell the truth

  • want to stay in your comfort zone at all times

  • don't want to hear participants expressing themselves loudly or crying at times

  • want to change your partner rather than yourself

Workshop on How to Live, Love, Laugh & Be Happy & Completely Ruin Life as You Know It

Radical Honesty is direct communication that leads to intimacy. Honesty is kind of scary fun that turns out better than you thought it would. Lying is work and a pain in the ass and makes you lonesome as hell and eventually kills the connection, love and intimacy with your partner.

We claim that lying is the major source of all human stress and makes relationships superficial and many of us lonely in our relationships. It wears us out and eventually kills us. When people engage honestly, energy that was wasted maintaining a performance to make an impression is suddenly available for real creativity in playing together. When we admit our pretences, we can refresh our relationships and powerfully create new ways of living together. That is the not so secret of Radical Honesty.

What will we do?
On each day, we’ll do some yoga or body movement, meditation, workshop sessions and couples and group exercises. The sessions will include an introduction to Radical Honesty; a deeper dive into RH; and learning through theory, discussions, sharing and exercises on how to be radically honest. We’ll do group and paired exercises as well as hot seat work.

The usual weather conditions in the area call for temperatures between 3 and 10 Celsius. In the night time frost is still possible.

Leisure time

We will also have free time for connecting, relaxing, swimming, walking in the forest, rowing a boat, fishing and appreciating nature in its spring costume.

The training will be conducted in English. You will have the opportunity to do paired exercises with your partner in your native language.

The retreat will begin on Friday 18 May at 16:00 and will conclude on Tuesday 22 May by 13:00.

To reach the retreat site from outside Finland, fly to Helsinki airport and then take a two-hour train ride to Tampere. Another option is to fly directly to Tampere airport (served by Ryanair, Finnair and Scandinavian Airlines). From Amsterdam there are now budget airlines Transavia and Norwegian flying to Helsinki.

Participants will be asked to assist in the cooking, serving and cleaning up of meals/snacks as a way to help create a community during our five days together. This is commonly done in longer Radical Honesty workshops.

The workshop leaders are certified Radical Honesty Trainers Tuulia Syvänen and Pete Jordan. They are also a couple organizing and running workshops together.

The early bird price—available until 30 March 2018—is €510 (per person). The regular price thereafter is €550. The fee covers the workshop, healthy vegetarian or vegan meals/snacks, teaching, daily saunas, shared room accommodation and 1:1 follow up with the trainer after the training and ongoing support of the group to live loud. If you prefer, you can opt to pay the fee in several instalments.

Book your spot soon! Almost all of our all previous retreats have sold out.

About the Trainers

From Tuulia:
“I grew up in a dysfunctional family where expressing feelings of any kind (both negative and positive) was frowned upon. I became passionate about self-expression and self-awareness, and learned the importance of me setting my boundaries and of me speaking up. Most important, I learned the power of honesty, which I am now passionate about passing on to my son, to those around me and to those in my workshops. My life’s mission is to help create more love and connection between people through honest sharing and by expressing all feelings and without a need to change oneself or others.

“I’ve changed my life for the better by practicing Radical Honesty. I have more loving, honest and evolving relationships in my life (especially those with my son, my parents and my partner). I say what is important to me. I express my anger and my appreciation in the moment most of time. And though I still sometimes catch myself withholding, I try to be loving towards myself when I get it wrong. I don’t make others responsible for my own feelings (as I used to do). Best of all, I have learned to ask for what I want—and to my great joy, many times I even get it!”

About Tuulia:
Tuulia Syvanen is a coach and workshop leader who does 1:1 coaching and leads RH workshops across Europe. For two decades, she had held leadership positions at international, non-profit organizations that are concerned with social and environmental justice issues. A native of Finland, she has lived in Germany, The Netherlands, New Zealand and Canada.

Tuulia is a certified Radical Honesty trainer—having trained under the guidance of RH’s founder, Dr. Brad Blanton, and RH Master Trainer, Taber Shadburne—and has led the most RH workshops in Europe. She completed her four-year certificate in the “Human-to-Human Coaching and Therapy Program” in Finland in November 2016. Tuulia has also done additional trainings in Anger Work, Conflict Management and certified leader of Dr. Fischer’s Rebuilding Divorce Seminars. She earned a BA in Journalism from the University of Tampere and has a 15-year-old son.

Pete Jordan is the only certified Radical Honesty trainer in the Benelux countries. He organizes and co-leads Radical Honesty workshops around Europe with his partner Tuulia.

Pete has changed his life for the better by committing to live honestly, expressing his resentments and appreciations in the moment and by asking for what he wants. A major breakthrough for him was to have honest talks with his ex-wife and four siblings. He has broken the traditions of his childhood’s family and began to talk about things he was afraid of and embarrassed about and what didn't like in his childhood.

Pete has great listening skills and he is keen on developing and learning every day. His vision is to support others to live happier, freer lives. Born and raised in San Francisco, Pete has lived in Amsterdam for the past 15 years and still makes himself happy each day he wakes up in that city. A writer by profession, Pete has a passion for cycling and has contributed his writing and photographs to several Dutch cycling publications for more than a decade. When he is not organizing or attending Radical Honesty workshops or spending time with his 12-year old son, he can be found meandering around Amsterdam on his bike. (And he feels some tightness in his stomach now as he writes this stuff about himself in the third person.)
