RADEN SALEH'S WORLD(S)

Either seen as a proto-nationalist or a European bourgeois, Raden Saleh occupied a unique and highly complex position straddling European and Javanese culture. This talk by Mikke Susanto (Curatorial Consultant, Presidential Palace, Indonesia) explores his multi-faceted life and artistic legacy, while touching on key paintings in the Between Worlds exhibition.

Talk will be conducted in Bahasa Indonesia, with simultaneous translation in English.

This talk is held in conjunction with the exhibition Colours of Impressionism: Masterpieces from the Musée d'Orsay, which runs from 16 November 2017 to 11 March 2018 at National Gallery Singapore.




ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Mikke Susanto teaches art history at the Indonesia Institute of Fine Arts (ISI), Yogyakarta and is also one of the curatorial consultants for the Presidential Collection of the Republic of Indonesia. He has curated numerous exhibitions in Indonesia and abroad. His most recent major publication was on Indonesia’s founding president Sukarno titled, Bung Karno: Patron & Collector of Indonesian Art.
