Description

In 2015, AcademyHealth released a report on The Future of Diversity and Inclusion in Health Services and Policy Research, based on an expert convening of diverse experts from research, clinical, industry, and policy settings. The experts recommended a series of steps that AcademyHealth could take to promote a diverse and inclusive field and workforce.

AcademyHealth is now working with HealthBegins to broaden and deepen our commitment to diversity and health equity by acknowledging the role of social determinants of health and increasing awareness of systemic discrimination and bias. We will be convening a small, invitation-only, multi-sector meeting of diverse experts to discuss these challenges for our field.

Following brief presentations by Lisa Simpson, Rishi Manchanda, and other leading experts, we will engage in an interactive, facilitated dialogue about how to move goals into action. Our hope for the meeting is to develop a plan to guide organizational, institutional, and community-level discussions about how to promote inclusion and health equity and directly address social determinants.

The healthcare and public health communities are at important crossroads of two dynamic shifts in policy discourse – the emerging role of social determinants of health and equity. are hosting this event to move the dialogue forward at the intersection of these trends.

*This event will take place in Room 211 in the Washington State Convention Center.*
