Racism, Being an Ally, and Challenging Injustice: An Online Forum
Event Information
About this Event
As we all watch in horror at recent events, I know many of us feel helpless and question what we can do, or how we can help to create a better system. One of equality and solidarity.
We, at Speak Up! Act Out! feel that an important starting point for any positive change, is an open forum, where ideas and thoughts can be exchanged and explored. We are interested in having conversations, gaining knowledge, and raising awareness. And then we can start tackling the root of the problems.
Join us for a discussion about racism in the UK, implicit bias, identity, racist microaggressions, being an ally, and how to challenge injustice when we witness it. We will also be discussing practical issues such as public law, and your rights if/when apprehended by the police during protests and demonstrations.
We have a panel of brilliant guest speakers, who will be sharing their experiences, expertise, and advice with us; and following this, there will be a Q&A. If you have any questions which you would like to be addressed by the speakers, please send them through to us, otherwise feel free to share them during the event in the chat or in the open forum.
This link has been shared by one of the speakers, as a suggestion to frame the discussion: https://www.edmontonshiftlab.ca/reflection-pool-a-shift-lab-2-0-prototype/4-types-of-racims/
We look forward to sharing this space with you.
(Attendees will be sent an email with Zoom login details the day before the event - if you cannot attend, or you will be late, please do notify us. Thank you)
