Event description
A passionate, moving piece inspired by traditional Russian chant but with gorgeous twentieth century harmonies.

About this Event

Please note: this event has been postponed to Spring 2021. We will get in touch with ticket holders, and will update you as soon as we have a new date. If you've purchased tickets, they will still be valid for the new date, but you may also request a refund by following the Eventbrite instructions here.

Rachmaninov’s work takes texts from the Russian Orthodox All-Night Vigil, although actually the whole piece only runs for about an hour. It is also known as Rachmaninov's Vespers, although it is only the first six of the fifteen movements that use text from the Russian Orthodox hour of vespers.

The music is stunning: inspired by traditional Russian chant but with gorgeous twentieth century harmonies, giving us a passionate and moving work.
