Race for the Natural Areas 5K Trail Run
Registration opens December 1, 2016. More details soon...
In conjunction with our Natural Areas Festival (more details coming soon) is our inaugural Race for the Natural Areas 5K Trail Run at Winding Waters Natural Area. The Race for the Natural Areas aims to showcase the Palm Beach County Natural Areas that the citizens voted to purchase and preserve.
Winding Waters is an over 500-acres natural area containing a diversity of habitats, such as mesic flatwoods, hydric hammock, depression marsh, wet prairie, and dome swamp. Several areas were cleared for agricultural purposes and have been restored to shallow-water and deep-water marshes. Birdlife is abundant with bald eagles, anhingas, green herons, belted kingfishers, wood storks, roseate spoonbills, and loggerhead shrikes making appearances.
The course itself will be along a trail ringing the restored wetland offering scenic views of the teeming plant and animal life.
The run is free but prior registration is required. The race will be timed (not chipped) and awarded but only for the first 3 female/male winners.
